Singapore Night Festival at National Museum of Singapore

Filed under: Christianity, Singapore — hendrikch @ 12:13 am

After missing last year’s Singapore Night Festival, I made it a point to drop by National Museum of Singapore last night to see what the night festival is all about.

The main event started at 10.30pm, but there are fringe shows nearby which started at 7.30pm. After I had my dinner in Asian Kitchen, City Link (which has better noodle than Din Tai Fung), I went straight to the park nearby the museum with Evie and Rafi. The other folks later joined us there. One thing you know when you go there is you gotta bring your camera, and so I went with full gear, Canon EOS 450D with 17-55mm IS f/2.8 lens borrowed from Jowena.

The fringe shows started at 7.30pm, and these are the performances which I bothered to take picture of.

They call themselves Deng

They call themselves "Deng"

Some dance

At around 9pm, we started walking towards the museum so we could get a better spot to take picture from. Unsurprisingly, there are already LOTS of people setting up their tripod around the museum, so we tried to find the best available spot from whatever empty spaces available.

The wheel of fire

The Loop of Fortune

The show started with some lady walking around, dancing, but I couldn’t see much as she was too far away, then it was these two men who continued playing drums in rotations, upside down.

Then, the real loop of fortune show started in front of really cool backdrops of various decorations to the museum’s face.

Finally, it was fireworks galore. Not as great as those National Day fireworks, but these are stage fireworks, so it was so close to you, you can feel it.

Fireworks

Fireworks

They ended the fireworks show with this great fireworks coming down from the museum’s building, really good stuff.

I love these fireworks the most !!

The crowds who were there soon left after the whole show ended. We waited for a while to wait for the crowd to clear up a bit before we head our way back home.

On our way back to the MRT, I saw this poster.

In the midst of Great Singapore Sale, it reminded us one most precious thing, human salvation through Christ, though free, is not for sale coz it ain’t cheap.

COMEX 2008 Shopping List

Filed under: IT Show, Singapore, Technology — hendrikch @ 12:13 am

COMEX 2008 will be coming next Thursday, 28 August 2008, and I already have a shopping list. Some are need-to-have, some are only good-to-have. Here they are in order of priority and importance:

  1. NEED-TO-HAVE. A new digital camera to bring for USA Trip in September. Top of the list is Canon IXUS 860IS. Currently, shops are generally selling at S$545 with 1x4GB SD card and extra battery. Hopefully COMEX this time round will have a better deal.

    Canon IXUS 860IS

    Canon IXUS 860IS

  2. NEED-TO-HAVE. A portable harddisk, again for USA Trip. Having a laptop while travelling is great, but what’s more important is its backup, as if the hard drive crashed on my flight back, it’ll be a disaster to lose all photos taken during the whole trip. I consider this $100-$140 spent as insurance paid against data lost during my trip. :-) Considering Seagate FreeAgent Go simply because of its 5-year warranty.

Seagate FreeAgent Pro ($100-$140 depending on capacity)

Seagate FreeAgent Go ($100-$140 depending on capacity)

  3. GOOD-TO-HAVE. Another 2GB of Kingston DDR2-RAM 667MHz SO-DIMM to add on top of the 2GB currently installed in my Macbook, to make it 4GB. It should be about $55.

    Kingston 2GB DDR2-RAM 667MHz SO-DIMM

  4. GOOD-TO-HAVE. A mouse to accompany my Macbook. I really want Logitech V470 Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks @ $85 I think the last time I checked. What I really like about this mouse is it’s Bluetooth, so no need to use any USB port. It has everything I want except the price hehe…. :p
    Logitech V470 Bluetooth Mouse @ $85

    Logitech V470 Bluetooth Mouse @ $85

However, due to its high price, I’m also considering other mice.
    Cordless

    Logitech V220 @ $49

    Logitech V220 @ $49

    Logitech V320 @ $68

    Logitech V320 @ $68

Logitech V450 Nano (no idea how much)

Logitech V450 Nano (no idea how much)

    Wired

    Logitech V120 @ $26

    Logitech V120 @ $26

    Logitech V150 @ $39

    Logitech V150 @ $39

What do you think on my choices? Any better recommendations? Are you planning to get anything this COMEX show at Suntec? I know a certain someone who’s getting an LCD monitor. And I also know someone who will be dying to recommend a dSLR instead :p

iPhone 3G in Singapore on August 22

Filed under: Portables, Singapore — hendrikch @ 8:17 pm

I just gotten the email from Apple itself, mentioning iPhone 3G will be available on August 22nd for those who are interested.

In the mean time, SingTel has officially announce the price plan as well.

Although $56 plan is pretty steep, but the price plan of iFlexi Value are not too bad actually to have 1GB of monthly data (that should be enough for mobile browsing, unless you stream YouTube video everyday on the road, then 1GB will not be enough).

The bad news is, unlike Starhub that cap data usage at $36 a month, SingTel doesn’t, so you can possibly paying hundreds of dollars for your data plan if you’re not careful.

The second bad news is, in order to enjoy that FREE 1GB local data, you have to signup before 5th September 2008, that’s like two weeks after it will be launched this Friday. But then, with COMEX coming along next week, expect LOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG QUEUE at Suntec City when people will queue for iPhone.

Wait a minute, maybe that’s actually a good news. With LOTS of people busy queuing for the iPhone, the rest of Suntec City will be empty for me to roam around, *fat hope* :-D

Labour Day activities

May 1st was Labour Day, a public holiday. Many of us took the opportunity to rest at home, many like me went out the whole day to make us even more tired than our workdays. I left home about 11AM to Queenstown, Dede’s house for gathering. While the girls were busy cooking lunch in the kitchen, the guys were busy playing Nintendo Wii in the living room. smile_tongue Eventually, those girls joined in the fun too. Boxing game was truly tiring, you move A LOT as you try to punch the other guy upside down, and hopefully managed to hit an upper jab. That game didn’t last long as it was very tiring to play such a game. We settled for Tennis game that was more fun, and doesn’t require so much muscle power. Bowling was fun too.

When the lunch was ready, we grabbed our own food, and watched Moulin Rouge VCD, courtesy of Dewi. I stayed until around 3.30 PM, and then I left to East Coast Park for BBQ with another group of friends. It was an occasion to celebrate Suwanto and Ceria birthday as well.

Thirty-three and going strong for Suwanto

Twenty three or twenty eight?

The girls

The baby and father

The couple and a lamp post

The chef and his chicken wings

Everyone else who will make sure all food are consumed

The yummy yummy dinner

More healthy food are also available

Doggie doggie, hungry?

The skating girl

For all other photos, it’s in my photo album. There’s a video created for this event too. Check it out.
