Stephen Tong Gospel Rally 2008

Filed under: Christianity, GRIIS — hendrikch @ 2:13 pm

After seven long years, Rev. Dr. Stephen Tong has once again held a Gospel rally in Singapore Indoor Stadium at Kallang. The event starts at 7.30pm everyday between 11-14 September 2008, with an additional Q&A session on 13th starts at 6.30pm.

I went to both sessions on Thursday and Friday as well as thousands of people who came to the stadium. Before the sermon started, we are presented with a wonderful song sang by 600-person choir. Every night, they’ll sing three different songs, so if you attend all four nights, you’ll have the opportunity to listen to 12 songs.

Rev. Dr. Stephen Tong will speak in Mandarin, and Elder Yong will help to translate to English for the benefit of those who don’t quite understand Mandarin (like me).

If you so happen to read my blog post before end of Sunday, 14th, do drag yourself to come to Indoor Stadium, and I promise a few hours you spent here will be very well spent.

Outing at Singapore Botanical Garden

Filed under: Going out, GRIIS — hendrikch @ 11:22 pm

GRIIS young adults and teen fellowship gathered for an outing at Singapore Botanical Garden yesterday afternoon. We started about 3.15 PM, we sang songs, we listened to sharing and God’s Word, followed by fun games and dinner. Here are some photos and videos that I took, all using N95.

The first game was “Tree, Squirrel, and Hunter“. If it was to be inspired by Enchanted the movie, maybe we would have called it “Tree, Chipmunk, and Evil Queen” haha… :p Those squirrels who didn’t get tree to live in during those games were punished to dance as the rest sang along.

Those who get punishment after the first game.

It was shortly followed by sharing, first from Jo who will be leaving for Denmark this month, and Ezra together with his brothers and mother back to Jakarta.

Short sharing from Ezra before he left Singapore, for a long time

Kau sahabatku, kau saudaraku, tiada yang dapat memisahkan kita

Sing-a-song in a beautiful garden

Outing is never complete without a group photo
The turn-out was about 75 to 80 persons. I personally was very thankful for the weather, that it didn’t rain.

Get all the photos in my album. http://hendrikch.smugmug.com/gallery/3917523/

Watched Kingdom of Heaven

Filed under: GRIIS, Movies — hendrikch @ 5:09 pm

70-75 of us from GRII and friends, seated from row F to row M in Cathay Cineleisure last night to watch Kingdom of Heaven. For me, it was just OK, the fighting scene was not as mesmerizing as Lord of the Ring’s, the act was just okay. The storyline however, instilled a number of good and wise points to the viewers.

We all finished our fellowship at around 7 pm, and it took close to one hour to move 70 people from Bugis to Somerset alone. Imagine how Moses managed to move millions of people in the desert from Egypt to Canaan, somemore at the time where handphone has not been invented yet.

Most of us reached Cathay around 7.40, rushed for a piece of Burger King, and arrived at the cinema close to 8 pm when the show has already started.

All in all, it was a memorizing one, especially when there are so many people you know around you. More of this in two weeks time for Star Wars III.

Introducing reformedstudents.tk

Filed under: GRIIS — hendrikch @ 2:59 pm

Sorry for not being able to post as many as last week since I am now busy creating an ‘urgent’ website, http://www.reformedstudents.tk. OK, I don’t have much time to rethink of design, so I just took my current design and dump in the contents in.
Comments all you like about this new website, since we hope that this website will be fully up by weekend before new undergraduates from Indonesia has came to Singapore.

Split-seconds Decisions

Filed under: Christianity, GRIIS — hendrikch @ 1:34 pm

Few months ago, my pastor preached about making split-seconds decisions that could potentially change one’s life, in extreme cases could change the whole world. Today, I have to made not one, but two split-seconds decisions. The kind of decisions which I have to make in a blink of an eye, and I have not been particularly proud of them.
When I was walking back home around 11 PM from bus stop just now, I was wondering, was those bad decisions? Could I have done better with them? Well, there’s no need to regret those, since regret would be too late. I was not in my usual happy-go-lucky mood after that. Only after one of my friend sms-ed me, then I could smile a bit.
Of course, to the rest of my flatmates when I reached home, I am still the super-happy-no-problemo guy and I intend to keep it that way. I just don’t want to send negative mood and energy to my flatmates. They should keep getting positive and encouraging mood from me, at least I want it that way.
So, what do you usually do when you have to make such decisions? Is there such “training” that I can learn so I can make better decisions next time? Wisdom?
