Year 2009 Resolutions and Goals

Filed under: Christianity, GRIIS, Personal Ramblings — hendrikch @ 10:14 pm

The last time I did all these resolutions and goals was three years ago, in 2006, most of which I didn’t manage to complete. I didn’t do any for 2007 and 2008, and I think it’s a good time to start again what has been ignored for some time. Here they are:

1. More regular Quiet Time and Prayers. This one has always been a struggle over the years, but it is not something that one can give up trying. Target: 80%.

2. Finish reading FOUR books this year that are at least 100 pages-thick. Not comics, not Reader’s Digest, but proper books.

3. Keep serving in young adults fellowship and start serving in church’s adults service. I think can start from usher. Not sure if choir will accept this croaked voice of mine.

4. Learn evangelizing other non-believers. The Word I listened yesterday was: If I don’t spread the Gospel, I am more cruel than people in hell !! (Luke 16:19-31)

5. To attend a service in GRII main church, Katedral Mesias (Messiah Cathedral), in Kemayoran, Jakarta, every single Sunday I will be in Jakarta. Hope to get my whole family together as well when I go.

6. Double up my investment portfolios while keeping six-month expenses in cash. Depending on travel plans and gadgets expenses this year, this goal could be in jeopardy. So far, there has been potential trip to Europe, potential for a new LCD monitor and potential for a new digital camera.

7. Call back home at least twice a month.

What do you think of mine? Have you set what you would like to achieve this year?

Christmas Gospel Rally

Filed under: Christianity, GRIIS — hendrikch @ 1:53 pm

Guess what were we doing?

The answer? To make some sheep :-)

Finally, the D-day for Reformed Evangelical Church (Singapore) Gospel Rally. Church choir prayed for God’s grace for the day while singing some songs from Handel’s Messiah.

Sunday school choir.

For unto us a Child is born from Handel’s Messiah.

Everyone stood up for the final song, Hallelujah. A praise for the King of kings and Lord of lords.

And the climax, sermon from Rev. Dr. Stephen Tong.

I was so glad that my brother dropped by Singapore at the time of this Gospel Rally, so he could attend.

I was so glad, a lot of people responded to the call to believe in Jesus, and I knew God Himself will continue to support and build their faith in Christ :-) Soli deo Gloria.

Some random shots in Orchard

Filed under: GRIIS, Going out — hendrikch @ 1:25 pm

During the week in leading to our Christmas Gospel Rally, many of us went around Orchard, finding Indonesians who are still in Singapore on Sunday, and we invited them to come to this Gospel Rally. While walking around Orchard Road, I didn’t miss the opportunity to snap some pictures.

Ian and Akbar with their flyers to be distributed.

Anyone dare to challenge this chess grand master in a game of speed chess? Each person has 3 minutes total for the game. The person who ran out of time or get their king checked-mate loses. It’s amazing to see they play the game where each move required only 2-10 seconds.

Some random shots I took in Orchard

Sports Day

Filed under: GRIIS, Going out — hendrikch @ 1:12 pm

Young adults fellowship from Reformed Evangelical Church (Singapore) didn’t waste the public holiday given to do some activities. This time we gathered in former School of Physical Education Bukit Timah to do sports together. We booked four badminton, one volleyball, and one basketball court for a full three hours.

The turn out was great, and people were certainly enjoying the fun.

Girls played with smile

Guys, well, were serious and competitive

Me? I probably picked the shuttlecock more than I play hehe…

For volleyball, some were really serious.

Some simply looked funny.

And finally some were there to snap pictures.

After burning our calories in sports, nothing is better than having a good lunch ;-)

Gathering at Ivory heights

Filed under: GRIIS, Going out, Personal Ramblings — hendrikch @ 3:25 pm

To celebrate Dewi’s freedom from her exam, as well as early Christmas, she volunteered herself to cook dinner for many people. There were about a dozen people invited, including me *of course* to her house for dinner and games last Friday.

Games including Uno Stacko

Mini Mahjong

and Mickey Mouse Monopoly

Dinner were pasta with LOTS of cheese and vegetables, then carrot and potato soup, with chocolate cake for desserts. You can tell how delicious the soup was that Alvin finished a BIG bowl.

It was a very fun evening, especially when Akbar dropped the Uno Stacko that went to 29 layers if I didn’t count wrongly.

Thanks to all who came and especially to those who have prepared the dinner for all of us :-D Arigatouuuu……

Christmas Gospel Rally 2008

Filed under: Christianity, GRIIS — hendrikch @ 2:25 pm

Christmas is just around the corner again, and as usual, Reformed Evangelical Church in Singapore (GRIIS) and STEMI doesn’t miss the opportunity to hold a Gospel Rally, to bring people to know the true meaning of CHRIST-mas. What else should a church do for Christmas, right?

Everyone are invited to the rally, do come, and bring your friends along, so they’ll find out the ONLY way to heaven is through Jesus Christ. The speaker will be Rev. Dr. Stephen Tong himself for both sessions.

There’ll be two sessions, first session details in Indonesian language as below, Tuhan yang masuk kedalam sejarah.

The second one, titled “The Lord who entered history” will be in Mandarin, translated to English, details below.

Stephen Tong Gospel Rally 2008

Filed under: Christianity, GRIIS — hendrikch @ 2:13 pm

After seven long years, Rev. Dr. Stephen Tong has once again held a Gospel rally in Singapore Indoor Stadium at Kallang. The event starts at 7.30pm everyday between 11-14 September 2008, with an additional Q&A session on 13th starts at 6.30pm.

I went to both sessions on Thursday and Friday as well as thousands of people who came to the stadium. Before the sermon started, we are presented with a wonderful song sang by 600-person choir. Every night, they’ll sing three different songs, so if you attend all four nights, you’ll have the opportunity to listen to 12 songs.

Rev. Dr. Stephen Tong will speak in Mandarin, and Elder Yong will help to translate to English for the benefit of those who don’t quite understand Mandarin (like me).

If you so happen to read my blog post before end of Sunday, 14th, do drag yourself to come to Indoor Stadium, and I promise a few hours you spent here will be very well spent.
