Done with processing Bali trip photos

There were close to 600 photos both from my iPhone and Canon 450D, and after spending a few hours today, I selected 175 photos to keep, and thrashed the rest.

There were many burst shots that I took when both of my nieces are in the frame, and it’s never easy to get children to pose nicely for your camera, so the only choice I had was to burst-shot and hope for the best that at least one good shot came out of it.

I will refrain from duplicating myself in sharing the photos in both my blog and Facebook, so photos and short explanation and story for them goes into Facebook, and my blog will most likely simply link to that album in Facebook.

Any better idea on keeping this blog alive while maintaing communities in Facebook?

In the mean time, here are some footages from the wonderful beaches in Bali.

For editing videos, I created a custom sequence preset in Adobe Premiere Pro to match iPhone 4 file setting.

Wednesday in Jakarta

I spent whole of my Wednesday literally taking photos. This time, I was taking product photos for Photoworks Indonesia, a photo lab with very nice print-outs on albums, boxes, frames, etc. for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, and many other events.

I had lunch at Hoka-hoka Bento, *finally*, and it tasted great as usual. For drink, it was Teh Botol, what else right?

True to my IT background, after seeing the PCs there without proper backups, shared terminals were given Administrator rights, etc., I couldn’t help myself NOT to fix all of them. At least, I didn’t spot any viruses around this time

Dinner time

Dinner time, few family members gathered at Ikan Cianjur at Batu Tulis. Their signature dish is Ikan Fesmol. I don’t know what Fesmol is, I only know Fesbuk :p

My two nieces, however, are not interested with the food on the table. They preferred chocolates bread and avocado juice instead.

Weekend in Jakarta

I reached Jakarta for one-week holiday on Friday evening, 9th October with Valuair for a planned-fully-packed vacation. I started Saturday by visiting my grandma, then upgrading my mom’s laptop to Windows 7 Home Premium. The upgrade took a full two hours, and after upgrade, everything works perfectly fine. In the afternoon, I assisted my mom to calculate and manage employee’s salary, which surprisingly took me almost two hours to go through everything. My brother and I slept in our sister’s apartment that evening. I spent the night there editing photos that I’ve taken that day.

Sunday was even a longer day. I woke up at 6 AM, reached GRII church at Kemayoran for 7 AM Sunday service. After the service, I went to Bakmi GM for breakfast with Evie‘s family. The breakfast was soon followed by me and Evie visiting my grandma and my parents for mango dessert and Hokkien Mee lunch. After lunch, we quickly dashed to Vivien’s holy matrimony in a church in Sunter. With me having no clue on where the church was, I drove around Sunter area with Evie’s holding my phone with GPS on. We got lost for a while before we finally found the church half hour later.

After the holy matrimony, we drove back to Mall Kelapa Gading to meet my high school friends for a mini-reunion between 3-5 PM. We walked around the mall for an hour, then we went to Mangga Dua Square for Vivien’s wedding dinner. After Evie went home, I drove home, getting lost in Kemayoran area, but found my way back home safely.

With a draining Sunday, no wonder I only woke up at 12 PM on Monday, a novelty, haha… I went to optical shop to buy a new glasses for myself. This one I wear is more than 6 years old now. The good thing is, the power of my right eye has reduced though the power of my left eye has increased a bit. The cylinder power in both eyes have magically disappear, so after 6 years, it seems like my eyes have actually gotten better. Me and family went for dinner at Duck King, and ended the day at bowling’s alley. I took 431 photos that day, and spent the night editing photos *again*.

Tuesday was not much different. I went to my dad’s office, helped to digitize handwritten notes I found there, and finished up a product brochure’s design. After dinner, I browsed the net for images for my next product’s brochure’s design.

No doubt, tomorrow will be a long day again, I’ll update again in a few days

Leap Year Baby

After I was sick and took MC for Thursday, I already felt better, and would be going to office on Friday. Unknown to me, at 1.15 AM in the morning, my sis woke me up, telling me that she’s on her way to the hospital as she felt pain in her stomach. My dad accompanying her also sms-ed me to rush to the hospital to help him as he can’t take care my first niece, Kylie, and my sister all by himself. So, I quickly changed and rushed to Mt. Alvernia Hospital. As my brother-in-law was only planning to reach Singapore in the evening, my dad and myself are the only ones my sis had to help her.

1.45 AM: When I reached the hospital, my sis was already admitted to the delivery suite for check-up, my mom and my brother-in-law clearly nervous back in Jakarta, we had to sms and call them for any minute details update on my sis.

2.00 AM: The nurse told us that it’s time for delivery and they’ll be bringing my sister for operation now. The initial estimate for delivery that we have known for weeks were between 3-6 March, but this one was early.

2.10 AM: My sister was brought out from delivery suite into operating theatre, and we followed them. We, however, could only wait outside, as only the husband are allowed into the operating theatre.

My dad was visibly concerned and my niece not knowing what were happening. Poor girl that we had to wake her up 1 AM in the morning and brought her here.

2.30 AM: A nurse came out, asked me, “Are you the husband?“. “No“, I said. “Where’s the husband, he can go in.”. I replied, “He’s not here.“

29 February 2008 02.50 AM: This cute little baby girl pops out, well and healthy.

3.00 AM: As her father were not around, the nurse asked me, together with her, to check the baby. It was something that I have never seen nor experienced, so I just stood there, nodding on every statement as the nurse took her measurements 3.020 kg weight, 32 cm head circumference, and 50 cm length. Two eyes, one nose, one mouth, two ears, two hands and two legs, with five fingers in each. Well, at least now I know that they checked all these, I totally looked silly. Hey!! Don’t laugh, I was a total n00b when it came to checking baby. But now I can safely say I got the experience haha…. I now know what need to be done when I’ll be a daddy one day haha…

4.30 AM: My sis was done with her operation, ushered into the room, and the baby was wrapped in blanket and slept quietly. I was just sitting there, waiting, using my Nokia N95 with Mt. Alvernia free wireless LAN to send the leap-year baby pictures to my brother-in-law back in Jakarta, who undoubtedly were very anxious.

5.00 AM: As we were not allowed to stay, we went back home, and had a short sleep. The main reason was that Kylie couldn’t sleep at all in the hospital, so we had to bring her back home for a much-needed sleep.

10.00 AM: We reached hospital again, and Kylie was very eager to see her younger sister now.

My brother-in-law and my grandma reached Singapore 8 PM in the evening and rushed to the hospital with all their luggage, can’t wait to see the new born baby

As for me, my flu got worse as I didn’t have enough sleep and was tired with all these, and I didn’t dare to get close to the baby without me holding my breath. Only after I went down to the Pharmacy and got myself some Panadol Cold that I got better, but the ecstasy of having a special leap-year baby in the family will make you forget that you’re sick

Oh yeah, for the name, it’ll likely be Valerie.

Chinese New Year – East Coast, Chinatown, JB

Since we didn’t managed to visit Sentosa, we went to East Coast instead, and still have lots of fun.

My niece is certainly having a great fun

She’s not afraid of water nor the waves that came crashing through her legs. She even dragged us deeper into the water, but the rest of us who went there unprepared with any pants to change refused to go deeper, *maybe* next time. Of course, we need to be wary of her safety too.

After having some fun in East Coast, on our way back to Boonlay, we stopped by Chinatown to see if there are any happenings. Sadly, only these decorations greeted us along an empty road.

Of course that won’t deter yours truly to pose for some pics.

Most of the shops there are open, not many stalls are even open for dinner.

The next day was spent in Johor Bahru. For once, I knew that, since late Jan 2008, we are no longer required to fill in embarkation card to enter Malaysia, so cool, save one more paper to fill up every time I go to Malaysia.

City Square shopping mall are quite empty too, with some decoration with money and rats in it (expected).

Good Fortune, Prosperity, Longevity, those material things that every one wants, hope, and wishes for all the time.

Weekend Updates

It’s all about tennis and PC Show. Started with playing tennis on Friday evening, when I snapped my racquet’s (or shd it be racket?) string, and couldn’t really continue. Saturday morning, Eko and I went to Queensway to leave my racket for re-string. I picked a $30 Wilson Enduro 18 string. It stated “Engineered for Competition” string, Playability rated at full 10, and Durability rated at 9, hahaha…. After lunch at Queensway, we went to Singapore Expo for PC Show, together with Eric and Jejep. Honestly, nothing much there. I only bought a Samsung DVD Writer which Asen’s asked me to buy. He didn’t go there, coz I think he’s busy with his
After we have left Expo at 4.30 pm, we dropped by Queensway again to pick up my racket, and at night, we all played another session of tennis (again). It was also time to test out my new string. Turned out the string was too good that I was not used to it and thus was unable to muster enough accuracy on my shots. My shots were literally flew all over the court. That night, Belgium’s Justine Henin-Hardenne won her second Roland Garros title by devastating France’s Mary Pierce 6-1, 6-1 in the French Open final.
Sunday was as usual, went to church, dinner at Queenstown before going back home. At night, somehow I managed to reach home at 8.30+ pm, just nice to play another session of tennis. This time, I started to get the hang of my new racket’s string, and as my flatmates suggested, now I hit the ball much better, be it forehand, backhand, serve, or slices, you name it, haaa…. Although, “better” is relative to myself, it could still mean “very poor” in good player’s standard, hahaha… Sunday night was Men’s French Open final when Spanish teen Rafael Nadal capped an amazing fortnight by overcoming a game Mariano Puerta 6-7 (6), 6-3, 6-1, 7-5 to win the his first Roland Garros men’s title.
Lastly, something not so usual on Sunday, when my sister finally delivered her first baby, Kylie Feodorea Chan, on Sunday 5th June 2005 – 9.30 AM Jakarta time, into this world. Congrats sis … now, let’s see when I can find a flight back to Jakarta to visit my first niece, hahaha…

Back to Singapore

Hi everyone, I am back in Singapore after few packed days back in Jakarta. Went to visit my grandma, then to visit our newest family member, my now 10-day-old cousin, Ellaine Permata Kurniawan. Cute as all baby always is, she’s my uncle’s first daughter. After that, we went to visit a new office space that my parents rented, brainstorming ideas on how to organize the office layout and such. At night, I used Microsoft Office Visio to draw a floor plan for the office layout. It looks pro as those you usually see in a marketing office, I tell you, hahaha… And oh yes, it was raining that night. heavily.

As my parents had expected, the very next morning, my house was flooded, so we spent our early Sunday to move things higher, stacking boxes and things in the house with pallets of woods etc, just to make sure that we are prepared in case the sky decided to pour its water down to earth again Sunday night.

For dinner, I went out with my former-high-school friend to La Piazza, then visit our former high school principal, Bu Elika. We chatted in her house until midnight, I sent my friend back home before reaching my house close to 1 AM. Back at home, I continued drawing sketches for the new office floor plan, before concasted at I-don’t-know what time.
Monday is the sole purpose I went to Jakarta, so I woke up early yesterday, went to meet people and talk here talk there, sign here sign there, things that won’t interest you guys. Zoom back few hours later, and I am back to Singapore, reaching here at 10.45 PM.
Upon reaching Singapore, I was thinking, should I be taking cab, or just take the MRT and bus?
I risk myself taking MRT and bus, had to wait for 15 mins before I departed from Changi Airport at 11 PM. Knowing that it’s impossible to reach Clementi to catch the last bus 184 at 11.38 PM, I decided to stop by Bugis, praying that I will not miss 960 last bus. I reached Bugis around 11.40 PM, walked up opposite Bugis Junction, and the 960 bus reached at the moment I reached there, or rather, I reached at the moment 960 arrived. Whatever. I hopped on the bus, settled myself, and few seconds later, I raised two thumbs up, stared at the night sky, and said, “You are just great, Lord”.
