Wednesday in Jakarta

Filed under: Dining, Family — hendrikch @ 11:30 am

I spent whole of my Wednesday literally taking photos. This time, I was taking product photos for Photoworks Indonesia, a photo lab with very nice print-outs on albums, boxes, frames, etc. for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, and many other events.

If you’d like to know more about Photoworks Indonesia, keep an eye on http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=252072090065. I took over 100 photos of different items in that whole day, it tells you how many items and customizations that they can handle and provide you, it worth checking when you have the need for a photo album.

I had lunch at Hoka-hoka Bento, *finally*, and it tasted great as usual. For drink, it was Teh Botol, what else right?

True to my IT background, after seeing the PCs there without proper backups, shared terminals were given Administrator rights, etc., I couldn’t help myself NOT to fix all of them. At least, I didn’t spot any viruses around this time :-)

Dinner time, few family members gathered at Ikan Cianjur at Batu Tulis. Their signature dish is Ikan Fesmol. I don’t know what Fesmol is, I only know Fesbuk :p

My two nieces, however, are not interested with the food on the table. They preferred chocolates bread and avocado juice instead.

Weekend in Jakarta

Filed under: Christianity, Dining, Family, Personal Ramblings — hendrikch @ 11:30 pm

I reached Jakarta for one-week holiday on Friday evening, 9th October with Valuair for a planned-fully-packed vacation. I started Saturday by visiting my grandma, then upgrading my mom’s laptop to Windows 7 Home Premium. The upgrade took a full two hours, and after upgrade, everything works perfectly fine. In the afternoon, I assisted my mom to calculate and manage employee’s salary, which surprisingly took me almost two hours to go through everything. My brother and I slept in our sister’s apartment that evening. I spent the night there editing photos that I’ve taken that day.

Sunday was even a longer day. I woke up at 6 AM, reached GRII church at Kemayoran for 7 AM Sunday service. After the service, I went to Bakmi GM for breakfast with Evie’s family. The breakfast was soon followed by me and Evie visiting my grandma and my parents for mango dessert and Hokkien Mee lunch. After lunch, we quickly dashed to Vivien’s holy matrimony in a church in Sunter. With me having no clue on where the church was, I drove around Sunter area with Evie’s holding my phone with GPS on. We got lost for a while before we finally found the church half hour later.

After the holy matrimony, we drove back to Mall Kelapa Gading to meet my high school friends for a mini-reunion between 3-5 PM. We walked around the mall for an hour, then we went to Mangga Dua Square for Vivien’s wedding dinner. After Evie went home, I drove home, getting lost in Kemayoran area, but found my way back home safely.

With a draining Sunday, no wonder I only woke up at 12 PM on Monday, a novelty, haha… I went to optical shop to buy a new glasses for myself. This one I wear is more than 6 years old now. The good thing is, the power of my right eye has reduced though the power of my left eye has increased a bit. The cylinder power in both eyes have magically disappear, so after 6 years, it seems like my eyes have actually gotten better. Me and family went for dinner at Duck King, and ended the day at bowling’s alley. I took 431 photos that day, and spent the night editing photos *again*.

Tuesday was not much different. I went to my dad’s office, helped to digitize handwritten notes I found there, and finished up a product brochure’s design. After dinner, I browsed the net for images for my next product’s brochure’s design.

No doubt, tomorrow will be a long day again, I’ll update again in a few days :-)

Dinner at Holland Village

Filed under: Dining, Going out — hendrikch @ 10:33 pm

After Sunday service, on Sunday of course, I met with my old time high school friend, Tobias, a.k.a Bobo. I went there with Ad and his wife, Marselyn, Ko Effendy, and Fonny. Tobias went there with Shihoko and another high school friend of ours, Reza.

I have not met Tobias since high school days, during which he went to States for study, and now is teaching political science at Universitas Pelita Harapan in Jakarta. Shihoko herself is trying to get a job as a nurse in Singapore, wish her well. Reza, well, still works in Microsoft and probably won’t be going out anytime soon. After more than 10 years of not seeing Tobias, he certainly has not changed much. Neither did I, I guess.

Mongolian the Tent

Filed under: BarCap, Dining — hendrikch @ 11:23 pm

To celebrate my boss farewell, we went to celebrate it at The Tent, Mongolian fresh grill & bar at Clarke Quay. Gengkis Khan Meal is a all-you-can eat buffet. What you do was to walk up to their bar, get a big bowl and a small bowl, and put them on a tray with a token of your table number.

After that, you walk up to vegetables bar and put all kinds of vegetables into the big bowl. Next up is a meat bar where you’ll see chicken, fish, prawns, squids, crab meat, mussels, clams, beef, lambs, you get the idea.

The last bar was the challenging one. They have no less than 20 kinds of sauces, grouped into sweet & sour, mild spicy, spicy, and very spicy sauces. You’ll see well-heard teriyaki, bulgogi, satay sauce, to Mongolian, The Tent house specialty sauces, lemon water, and hosts of other weird sauces on their bar. They have chicken floss, sesames, chili powder, peanuts, wasabi, etc. as the final top-up to your sauces, to be put inside the small bowl.

You pass the chef your choices and they’ll cook it Teppanyaki-style before delivering it to your table. As it’s my first time there, I mixed anything and everything I thought I could put inside my mouth, and here’s the result. 8-)

Somehow it turns out to looks like char kway teow. Can you spot noodle, tofu, fish cake, prawns, beef, fish slices, mussels, clams, peanuts, carrots, eggs, crab meats, and tomatoes in my dinner? Surprisingly, what I made up turned out to taste pretty nice. :!:

For drinks, as most of the places in Clarke Quay, they serve all kinds from juices to liquor to beer to expensive white and red wines.

As for the place, they have a very cozy place, very nice ambience, and soft-enough music in the background not to disturb your meal.

All were well until the time to pay the bill !!! It turned out to S$63 per person, the most expensive char kway teow I ever eaten. 8-O

Ex-SMUK 5 – 1999 batch in Singapore reunion

Filed under: Dining, Going out — hendrikch @ 9:57 pm

It has been eight years since we graduated from SMUK 5 back in 1999. Since then, some of us have ventured to study in NTU or NUS. Some have gone to other countries to study, while most people stayed in Jakarta for further study. Last Friday, after over a month trying to organize a reunion for those in Singapore, most of us managed to gather in Modesto’s Vivo City. So glad that so many people turned up, some already brought their husband/wife/husband-to-be/wife-to-be. Well, you get the idea. It was fun, really fun, and we must do this more often :)

After pizzas, pastas, ice creams, crepes, the bill only amount to $14 per person, a very reasonable amount for this kind of place :)

Here are some shots we took.

One week update

federer wimbledon 2007
Since last week’s lunch at River City, it has been a busy week for me. First, the nights were spent watching Wimbledon, in particular Men’s Singles Final between Roger Federer (world number 1) and Rafael Nadal (world number 2). The match went very very tense, with emotions flying up and down. Federer won the first set 7-6 after a thrilling tie-breaks, but Nadal won the second set 6-4, then another tie break which Federer won, but again Nadal fought back to equal the set by winning the fourth set 6-2. Federer record in 5 sets are 9 wins to 10 losses, whereas Nadal’s 9 wins to 2 losses, so the odds are in Nadal’s favour. Federer was down 15-40 twice and Nadal just needed one point to break in the final set. Instead, Federer saved all four break points chances, and broke Nadal in the sixth game to lead 4-2. diehard4posterMinutes later, at 5-2, a first championship point for Federer was saved by Nadal, but he couldn’t prevent world number 1 from getting his fifth consecutive Wimbledon’s trophy on a second break point. The match ended 7-6, 4-6, 7-6, 2-6, 6-2 to the champion. Okay, before I sound like a sports news reporter, I’ll stop here, but it was a really really thrilling match. The best tennis match I’ve ever watched so far.

On Friday, I also went for Die Hard 4. The movie supposedly started at 8.50pm, we came in at 8.55 pm, and the movie has already started. Apparently, I have missed three scenes :( Very good movie it was.

Saturday was Iwan and Sari wedding high-tea reception. The first wedding that I attended that has drama in it. Good job for the organizers. Of course, congrats Iwan and Sari, not sure if any of you will ever read this anyway. A 7-years long distance relationship is never easy, and I salute both of you for pulling it through.

Monday was Monday blue.
Tuesday was normal.
Wednesday, another lunch, this time I went to Mustard’s at Little India for authentic Bengal and Punjabi food. Needless to say I didn’t enjoy it, but it’s a good experience nonetheless. Will I go back? Not a chance. Will I recommend? Well, if you like Indian food, I guess so :)

harry potter
At night, I went for Harry Potter movie. Quite short I felt, but the movie was just okay I felt. I’m still looking forward to Transformers though. Settled dinner at Kenny Rogers accompanied by all those romantic oldies song haha… Great day, I truly enjoyed today :)
