Tennis Tournament D-day

6 07 2008

As expected, I made a first round exit after losing 6-1, 6-2 to BHL Marine and Chevron Oronite respectively. Against each company, we were supposed to play two doubles and one singles.

The score were:

vs BHL Marine
1st doubles: loss 1-6 (where I played)
2nd doubles: loss 0-6
Single: loss 0-6

vs Chevron
1st doubles: loss 2-6 (where I played)
2nd doubles: won 6-4 !!!
Single: loss 3-6

As we lost to both companies, we were out at first round. BHL Marine and Chevron will fight it out to determine the winner. It seems like BHL Marine is going to win again. We only managed a mere ONE game, so sad.

It has been a weekend full of tennis. I woke up 7.15AM on Saturday, then headed to Paya Lebar for practice, finished about 12 PM, reached back home at Jurong East about 1.30PM, had a lunch, then went out for 3PM meeting at church. It was soon followed by young adults fellowship, and dinner at Ev. Maria’s house at Eunos. I reached home over midnight. I slept almost 2AM in the morning.

Five hours later, I woke up for the tournament, I reached SPE Bukit Timah at 8AM. The game started proper close to 9AM, and I was finished (literally) by 12.30 PM. Reached home about 1PM, had lunch at 2PM, did laundry, took a nap from 3-4PM, then went to church at 5PM.

Now, I’m just waiting for Wimbledon’s men singles finals, just to learn how I should have played this morning :p

All in all, good fun, great game (although I lost). I have one year to practice for next year’s tournament. Looking back at my game, there are few aspects I need to improve A LOT. Serve is key in tournament, especially when you’re playing doubles, and I haven’t got one. I don’t have powerful first serve, nor do I have safe second serve. Patience and consistencies are key too. Those older folks tend to be very patient in playing, while us, the younger ones, tend to try to hit winners, and with that come more unforced errors.

Tennis Tournament

3 07 2008

There will be a Corporate Community Games this coming Saturday and Sunday, 5-6 July 2008. I will be participating in the tennis tournament, playing against other companies, not a good time to play considering I have only practised twice whole of June due to packed schedule. There will be three teams of four persons representing BarCap for tennis. The tournament itself will be held at Bukit Timah School of Physical Education. I think it’ll start at 8AM. If you are free this Sunday morning, come and join in the fun. While you’re there, please cheer me up will ya? I could be 0-6, 0-6 down by then :P

The draw is out, I will be in a group containing teams from BHL Marine and Chevron Oronite.

RBS 16-3 BarCap Celtic

7 05 2008

After two weeks of break from soccer, the futsal league continued again. I didn’t join in the fun today because I had to work UK shift hour (which by the way felt quite good). The last time we played against RBS, the team was thrashed 12-0, so any score below 12-0 would be welcomed. Apparently it didn’t go that well. This time it ended up 16-3. At least now I know that I was not the one who caused the team to lose badly last time out haha… :P

As for working UK hour, it’s a welcomed change. Woke up 10 AM in the morning, then went out for lunch before going to office. Reached office around 2PM and went back home 10+PM. The positive side? Between 7-10PM, as the office was dead quiet, I could concentrate much better, and more work was done. I’ll try again tomorrow morning, see if I can get more work done at night :D

Matador 17-2 BarCap Celtic

18 04 2008

yeah, we know we can’t make it. We thought 12-0 drubbing was bad enough, this time we let in 17, yeah, that’s seventeen goals !!! To console ourselves, at least we scored two. I scored one on the night.

After a great performance last week, it all fell apart as we tried to rely on individual skill instead of effort - unfortunately we don’t have much.

A stupid early own goal from Kevin put everyone on a downward slide and the ref starting the game bang on according to his watch which seemed a bit early to everyone else, meant that the six players were up against it from very early on. There was a lot of movement from the Matador players and tired old legs from BarCap just couldn’t keep up.

Lessons learnt from this and let’s hope that the one week break can settle us back down to burst back on with some more players returning from injury and some new faces.

Great play from Matador and hope to have some fresher legs next time we face you!

Man of the match to late opponent as no-one really stood out and it was our only real chance! Special commendation to Ian but I think we’ll get bored of awarding him MOTM soon!

Full match report, as usual, in ESPZen site.

BarCap Celtic 3 - 5 BNP Paribas FC

10 04 2008

My blog is starting to resemble Soccernet with an update of my soccer game every week. This week, we were scheduled to play against BNP Paribas Futsal Club. With more people playing this week (which means more substitutes), we were able to finish the game with a more respectable scoreline. After a twelve goals thrashing two weeks ago, and seven goals deficit last week, this week, we reduced that to only two goals. In a way, we improved by five goals each week. If that is not improvement, I don’t know what is. We hope that will continue to become positive three next week. fingerscrossed

In our third outing together, the team looks much better. There were visibly better understanding around the team (though multiple times my passes went astray, not knowing where my team mate were). I also opened my account by scoring one of the three scored tonight, yeehaaa !!! smile_teeth My manager scored the other two, noticeably better goals than mine. thumbs_up

No match report yet, but soon it will be up in ESPZen site.

BarCap Celtic 2 - 9 Draeger: We scored

3 04 2008

(At last) After having conceded 12 goals last week, there were improvements in that department that we *only* shipped 9 goals yesterday. However, it’s in attack where we made infinite improvement (hey!! 0 to 2 is infinite improvement, right?) smile_tongue Before I bore you out, let me put up the match report here.

With a new member but only 5 players starting, we were up against it from the beginning. Mike and Ian lined up in defence and proved to be a formidable force initially with Dean in goal nicely swooping anything up which slipped through.

The first half didn’t have huge numbers of opportunities but Kevin and Hendrik ran around up front trying to get in some opportunities and Mike and Ian broke
through well to try and get some shots in. Unfortunately, with no subs, we soon tired and some good movement from Draeger let to us being 3 down at half-time.

Remo arriving just after half-time gave us the chance to rest occasionally but it seems as if the rotation let us down and there’s was a burst of about 5 goals in 5 minutes that made the score worse than we felt we’d played.

The two goals coming from the two defenders says a lot about our attacking efforts but the second goal was very well worked and neatly finished by Ian. There
were some great chances made by Hendrik and Remo that just didn’t quite trickle in but with a bit more experience over the rest of the season, we should be scaring the back of the net a bit more.

Thanks to Draeger for a great game and fair game and thanks to Scruffy’s for the Heineken and Erdinger (just never go in a flight simulator that Remo has been in ;) )
