Spiderman III

Filed under: Movies — hendrikch @ 10:38 pm

Reviews from others I heard before I watched it ranges from lowly 2 stars to complete 5 stars.
I’ll give it 5 stars for the 2 hours 15 minutes movie. Great to watch, the action, the emotion, all that was blended into the movie. Granted, some parts are draggy, but overall, I’m very satisfied with the movie.

Highly recommended to watch if you have not :)

Life lessons

Filed under: Christianity, Personal Ramblings — hendrikch @ 8:33 pm

Everyone of us signed up (or more like was signed up) for life lessons classes when we came to earth. There are many modules to take, and each of us takes different modules. Some of us takes Love 101, some takes Anger Management class, some takes Kindness 201 class, some takes Generous 104 class, Faith and Hope class, etc. We went for kindergarten, primary school, secondary school, university, and so on. Many went on to excel in these classes, move from one class to another more advanced classes in such a short time. However, many of us failed and failed again the exam that we remains in the same class over many many years. Life classes is very similar to classes in school. You pass the test, you go to next class. If you fail, you have to repeat again. Same thing in life, we are taught lessons along the path of our life. If we learn our lessons, we advance to the next class with tougher lessons waiting for us. If we don’t, somehow we will be tested again and again until we learn our lessons. The test will usually come back again, but often in different forms.

When we don’t learn our lessons, we are sprinkled with sand on our head. If we don’t realize that, peebles will be falling on our head. If we still don’t learn our lesson and change, bigger stones will be sent down, bigger rocks, hammers, logs, trees, mountains, and the warning gets bigger and bigger by the day until we learn our lessons. And it’s not like we can avoid to take these classes. We can’t, we have to take them. Those who tries to skip these classes are destroying their future, because you can’t possibly go for university lessons when you haven’t even passed your Math 101. It’s natural to believe wonderful things in life don’t come easy.

Corrinne May wrote in her blog: “We all get pruned in some way or another. Some of us are physically pruned, … some emotionally pruned, perhaps having to be pruned of something we were emotionally dependent on ….. Pruning can involve discomfort, even pain, through pain sometimes only we appreciate the fact that God must do everything.

A comment in her blog by Francis mentioned: “The more we resist from being pruned due to fear of leaving our comfort zone and also pain; we can never see the lesson that is to be learnt. When we finally throw the towel and accept things, we start to accept getting pruned and the transformation in spiritually, physically, mentally and emotionally begin.

I agree.

because the Lord disciplines those he loves,
and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son

A Giant Story

Filed under: Personal Ramblings — hendrikch @ 10:49 pm

It was another evening when I went to Giant Hypermarket to get some food and drinks to fill my fridge at home. However, a couple of things notable happen today from a simple groceries shopping.

First, this is the first time I found something EXPIRED in a supermarket. And it’s an expensive Tropicana 100% Premium Orange Juice that has expired since 23 Apr 2007!!! I immediately brought the item to Giant’s staff there, which promptly checked the rest in the shelf, and trash the expired item. A “Thank You” was a nice gesture from him. Remember to check the expired date of items you buy the next time you visit a supermarket.

Second, it so happened that today is the first Wednesday on a month, where Giant is having this “Bring Your Own Bag” day. The cashier asked me if I would need a plastic bag. “Yes” I thought, ”Just use one plastic bag will do.” I replied her. Maybe I should bring my own bag next time I go to Giant, as Asen did.

Third, my shopping amounted to a nice $9.99!! hehe….

Church Outing on Labor’s Day

Filed under: Christianity — hendrikch @ 11:45 pm

We were meant to go to MacRitchie Reservoir for church outing today, I reached there about 8.15 AM only to know that MacRitchie outing has been moved because it was raining this morning, and I was asked to help out to SMS people in the registration list to let them know of venue change. We moved the outing to Bugis where our church office is located, sang a few praise and worship songs, listened to short sermon, and of course get to know each other. After that, we walked to an empty space near Esplanade for games and more singings. The games played were hulla-hoop and tug of war. Here are most of the photos I took today using my phone. You can’t see me in the picture because I’m behind the camera always haha…

The most fun tug of war was of course between Sunday school childrens, where no one was willing to give up, and it’s not a coincidence that their tug was the longest among all.

After tiring and fun tug of war, some rushed for an uncle there who sells ice cream. Imagine hundreds of people crowd to buy ice creams haha… Of course, many headed straight for lunch, sitting on Bayfront, enjoying the sea view :)

The panorama shot of the bay I took using the Panorama-shot feature of my phone.
