An answer on betrayal

Filed under: Christianity, Personal Ramblings — hendrikch @ 11:49 pm

betrayalFew days ago, I posted a question on betrayal to you all here. The responses were insightful for sure. It ranges from forgive and forget, four-step process of forgiving and making peace, keeping trust, until a quote from Mother Theresa. Thanks all for the responses.

Let me start with the background. Last Monday, I was watching Mars Vs Venus in Channel 8. The episode was about a wife who thought her husband cheated on her, betrayed her by having affair with another woman (who coincidentally is her best friend). Her husband pleaded innocence (and he is) but his wife, even after knowing the truth, refused to forgive him and filed for divorce.

Somehow that episode left an impression on my mind. On my way back home, I was thinking about it. Why is it so hard to forgive, even after knowing that her husband was innocent? What strucked me was the follow up that crossed my mind. How about us, humans, before God? Admit it, we all have betrayed God, we all “had affair” with others, we sin, we ignore God, we wanted a “divorce” from God as we do not want God’s intervention in our lives. And what’s the response from God? What the LOVE Himself do? He has the right to punish us for all of our mistakes, to throw us into a fiery furnace, but He decided to send His Son, Jesus Christ, into this world to save us. He sent His Grace.

That, to me at least, is a demonstration of what a true LOVE is. We disappointed Him again and again, we don’t deserve Him, but He chose to keep loving us, no matter what. (on the other side of the coin, when we have used up all our chances and don’t repent, He will STOP loving us and send us to hell). I feel that I am currently in the process of being moulded to learn this very aspect in my life. Can I love those who don’t love me? Can I pray for those who have hurt me? Can I keep loving those who have disappointed me again and again? Can I keep trusting the person who have abused my trust time and again? Can I keep giving chances one after another even when they all have been squandered? That is EXACTLY what God does, He gives me chances after chances, but can I extend the same towards others?

If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ do that.” (Luke 6:32-33)
