How my three hours are used

30 11 2004

A little personal, but never mind. I’ll share a glimpse on what I did from the time I reached home around 8 pm until now 11 pm, and you tell me if my three hours are well spent, used, or wasted.
These are roughly what I did just now.

2000:Reached home.
2000-2015: Settled down, turn on my PC.

2015-2045: Read news while having my dinner.
2045-2115: Reply emails, organizing a gathering for this coming Saturday, replying another gathering on Sunday, replying other pending emails, still having my dinner.
2115-2130: IM-ed my project manager, arranging my schedule for January 2005.
2130-2145: Called few people who never reply the gathering’s email, asking if they are coming.
2145-2200: Prepare my schedule and to-do list for tomorrow.
2200-2230: Called my mom.
2230-2245: Bathe, while copying new songs to my iPAQ.
2245-2300: Entering my expenses for today into Microsoft Money and reconciling account balances with my banks.
2300-2330: Write this blog entry while talking to my flatmates.
2330-0000: Time for little game before bed time.
0000-0030: Preparation before going to bed.
0030-0730: ZZzzzz…..
I was thinking of having a Journal application to help me track what I do from time to time, and hopefully if it works for me, then I should be able to utilize my time better and be a more effective person.

Dom Perignon IV Contest

27 11 2004

It was a contest for the fastest person who can write on PDA, and it’s open to everyone in the world. I was ranked 5th after four weeks of contest with a maximum score of 75.99 WPM, good score eh?
The full result is here. The method of choice? Fitaly. It’s a keyboard with all the keys placed not in the usual QWERTY manner, but it was designed such that the letters that you use mostly are placed near the centre.
I was told that QWERTY keyboard was invented to slow typist down. Why you would ask? Because in the old days, the mechanical typewriter was not good enough to handle hundreds of characters typed in a minute, and it would just jammed the typewriter, thus the QWERTY keyboard was invented. However, now that with all these machines which can take much much more than the traditional mechanical typewriter, there are already some effort from some people to change the layout of the current keyboard to something more efficient. How successful they will, I don’t know.
Back to Dom Perignon Contest. In the four weeks of contest, I won near to US$200 worth of prizes in the form of software for my Pocket PC, from most of them I already uses daily. The winner, Jim and Erwin, each won a bottle of Dom Perignon besides the rest of the prizes. If you don’t know, Dom Perignon is a bottle of champagne, to celebrate the victory I guess.
So, anyone reading this and interested to join, do join the contest next year.

I’m so higgghhhh….

25 11 2004

Not really high, but I think I’m a bit drunk after Wine Appreciation night in Wine Network in Holland Road. It was company’s recreation event where almost 30 persons show up. We tasted several kinds of wines, white wine and red wine, from different parts of the world, from Brazilian to South African’s.
I learned that wine was first found 7000 years ago.  In what we know now as Iraq, last time called Babylon. It was then learned in France, from where the wine tradition spreads around the world.
The owner of Wine Network also taught us how to properly hold a glass of wine, why the glass of wine is shaped as it is today, and why there are white wine and red wine. We were also taught that a good white wine should have a sparkling when near a light source.
Some wine we appreciated were tasted better than it smells, and some smells better than it tasted. Some smells like honey dew to me, some feel refreshing, and some just tasted well, like wine, hehehe…

It was really interesting to learn about wine and its history, and of course has a “little” taste to it along with finger food that tasted good.

Little changes

Sorry for not being able to update as often as I would like, so I decided that “Upcoming Post” will be a great place to jot down my thoughts as what I would like to post next, so keep watching this space for new post.

Last night and Today

19 11 2004

Last night, I went to watch The Incredibles. It started on 9.15 pm, so when I left office at 6, I loiter around city area to clear that three hours, hehehe… I dropped by Simlim Square, accompanying my colleague who bought Canon Ixus 40. I went to exchange my faulty RAM and bought a new SD/MMC card reader.
After Simlim, I went to Raffles Place to Starhub to get my new phone. It turned out I forgot to bring the necessary documents, so I didn’t get my phone last night. I have gotten my new phone today though. So, I went straight to Somerset to Cathay Cineleisure to Burger King to have dinner there.
Stayed there until 9 pm when we all went up to the theatre. The movie, as the name suggest, was simply incredible. I won’t talk so much about it here, except that, if you haven’t watched it, you should then.
Reached home midnite, tired … slept around 2 am.
Today, woke up 7.15 am, reached office around 8.45 am, and well, today I knew how my schedule for the next couple of weeks will be like.
Lunch was terriffic, I went to Merchant Court for $21.90++ buffet lunch. The varieties there are great, though for the quality, I would prefer Amara Hotel I had few weeks ago.
Left office around 6.30 pm, went to Starhub, reached there at 7, got my new phone (Sony Ericsson K700i) at 7.50 pm, had dinner at Burger King (again), and back home, half an hour late for my tennis, so I decided not to go altogether.

Just now I installed the new RAM I had, since I reached home last night quite late to do anything, but it seems that my motherboard also doesn’t like my new RAM. When I have the RAM installed, my Windows would just rebooted for no reason at the most bizarre times, any time it feels like rebooting. Think I was wrong to judge my RAM was faulty.

The night will be spent adding contacts, themes, songs, etc etc to my new phone, and tomorrow will be another fun-filled-packed day for me. Nitezzzz….

Holiday in Malaysia - Day 1

17 11 2004

I was in Malaysia (Genting and Kuala Lumpur one day each) for Hari Raya holiday with nine of my friends. We took off from Singapore Friday night at 10 pm, arriving at Genting the next morning, 4 am. Having nothing to do there when all the shops are still closed, we all went to the casino to kill off time.
Well, nine of us went in, except one who didn’t wear shoe there. So, their dress code in order to get into the casino are shirt with collar and shoe for men and practically no rule for women. What a fair world it was…
We didn’t do much in the casino as the tables with small bets are not open yet. The smallest bet on opened table was RM50 which was rather not affordable. So, we all went to play jackpot. Quite a stupid game I would say, heheh…
At around 6 AM, we all went to Burger King, *yawwnnn*, to have breakfast, and took early nap. After that, we went for the Outdoor Theme Park for attractions. I enjoyed most of the ride, it was really really fun.
The photo shown on the left is what they call Space Shot. It will bring you up for well, couple tenth of meters, and let you go, freefall down to earth when you can feel that for the moment, your soul and flesh are separated, hehehe…

We then went for lunch in a restaurant called Happy Valley. Not bothering to order on our own, we just went for one of their lunch package of the day, hehehe… *lazy bum* The photo on the right is the view from the table we were at that restaurant. It costed around RM21 per person.
After lunch, we still went around Genting until afternoon time when we went down hill, taking 20 minutes of cable car to our Awana Resort Hotel. The hotel was huge, it has a golf field, and the hotel itself is quite big. We stayed in 21st floor, six of the guys in one room while four of the girls in another.
The night was spent scrambling for dinner after we realized that all the shops down there was closed rather early. We went to the nearest shopping mall to no avail, stucked in a bus for half an hour, thanks to the irresponsible driver who went AWOL for that half an hour or so.

In the end, we went for dinner in a Japanese/Korean restaurant below the hotel. The food was so-so at best, but when you are hungry late at night, anything tastes good, hehehe…
Back to our room, we were all exhausted after 24 hours of no bed. However, few of the guys including me were still chatting, trying to know each other better. I just knew two of the guys the day before, so it was a good time to know them better. No idea what the girls were doing though.
Good sleep before day 2 of another rush and scrambling. To be continued …

Holiday Time

10 11 2004

So, today is my last day of working for this week, as I am taking leave for the coming Friday. So, what to do during this five days holiday? Me and near to ten of my friends are going to Genting and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for a couple of days. No fixed plan as yet, it’ll be a free and easy travel.
We will be taking private mini bus there, and while in Genting, staying in casino overnight, hahah… no accommodation at all. Of course after that in Kuala Lumpur, we have place to rest our heads, aka hotel room.
I am planning to drop by my uncle’s house while I am in Kuala Lumpur, but hadn’t called them yet.
So, for those not having exam, how have you planned your long holiday? Maybe I can try any of the ideas for the next holiday period. For those having exam, as always, all the best !!!!!
